The CWDM SFP small form-factor pluggable (SFP) is a compact optical transceiver used in optical communications for both telecommunication and data communications applications. It is a popular industry format supported by several fiber optic omponent vendors. SFP transceivers are designed to support SONET/SDH, Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and other communications standards SFP transceivers are available with a variety of different transmitter and receiver types, allowing users to select the appropriate transceiver for each link to provide the required optical reach over the available optical fiber.

optical CWDM transceivers support single-mode dual fiber applications with Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) wavelengths. optical CWDM transceivers can be installed in network equipment with SFP connectors to provide a CWDM wavelength that can be connected to a matching wavelength channel port on a CWDM multiplexer. For legacy equipment with copper of fixed fiber ports, transponders and media converters with SFP transceivers provide a convenient and inexpensive method to convert to CWDM wavelengths.
